Medical Tourism

Medical Tourism is a fast growing industry involving patients traveling to other states and countries for their medical care. There are a variety of reasons patients may choose to seek treatment outside of their place of residence, including physician expertise/experience, cost and quality of care. Given Dr. Pitt’s specific practice focus and experience in specialized procedures of spine, he has been fortunate enough to help hundreds of patients residing outside of Arizona, including the United Kingdom, Bermuda and the Dominican Republic.

If you choose to travel to Arizona for surgery with Dr. Pitt, the team at Spine Disorders of Arizona will assist your travel by providing you with all of the necessary information needed to make your trip and stay comfortable and enjoyable. His offices and surgical facilities are near multiple hotels and resorts of all price levels and with a variety of amenities depending on your needs. Since most surgeries allow you to be up and around the next day, his staff can offer suggestions for places to visit near your hotel and throughout the Valley of the Sun and the State of Arizona.

Dr. Pitt and the staff at Spine Disorders of Arizona know that traveling for a medical procedure can be stressful and difficult, therefore, we will do everything we can to make your experience as smooth and comfortable as possible.

Calculating your travel costs before making the decision to seek out of state treatment is always advisable. These costs include but are not limited to travel expenses to and from the destination, food, lodging, incidentals while out of state such as Uber rides, cabs, bus or parking fees.

Many insurance plans have in-network coverage and out-of-network coverage and based on your specific plan, the amount that the insurance carrier will cover out of your state or country could vary. The first step before deciding to travel for medical treatment is to talk directly to your insurance carrier and have them outline your coverage plan, out-of-pocket expenses, deductibles and any other necessary information. Make sure you obtain the name of whom you are speaking to and document this conversation for reference if needed.

Every person who is considering travel outside of their own state or country must consider the benefits verses the risks. Having an open-ended conversation with your medical team regarding any potential risks to your medical health is a good start to making the best decision for you. Being an educated advocate means being more successful during your travels.
