Spine Cancer Reconstruction Surgery

Primary and secondary malignancies is only found in less than 0.66% of the population with back pain. For those rare situations in which the patient presents to our office with a cancer diagnosis, Dr. Pitt will spend a significant amount of time speaking with you as well as conduct a complete physical examination. He will also spend a considerable amount of time reviewing your imaging studies, reports from other specialist, and provide a detailed treatment plan to reduce the risk of a neurologic injury. Our objective when possible is to help you preserve your lifestyle and activities of daily living. There are some malignancies that can be cured with surgical intervention, as well as others that can be treated more successfully with radiation or chemotherapy. There is a small subset of malignancies that have a poor prognosis regardless of the treatment algorithm. As a orthopedic spinal surgeon, our expertise is in musculoskeletal surgical management of all spine related structural, ligamentous, and bone related issues that could compromise the neural structures. It is fortunate that the nerves are rarely involved and the primary issue affects the patient's musculoskeletal spinal structures.
